Dick Clark, 82, Dies of Heart Attack

Dick Clark, the former WFIL-AM Philadelphia disc jockey and host of television's Bandstand, has died at the age of 82 of a heart attack. The famous Television Producer, most recently known for his annual appearances on New Year's eve telecasts from Times Square in New York, enjoyed a long and successful career in Television and Radio.

Dick Clark was a disc jockey on Philadelphia radio station WFIL and skyrocketed to stardom when he became the full time host of the Philadelphia based teen dance television show, Bandstand in 1952. The popular TV show was picked up by ABC TV and renamed American Bandstand in 1957.

His multi-media successes included nationally syndicated radio countdown show, The Dick Clark National Music Survey. Dick Clark also hosted the various versions of the popular TV game show, Pyramid.

Clark suffered a stroke in 2004 forcing him to seriously cut back on his public appearances and broadcast commitments.

The music that Dick Clark may be most remembered for are the pop hits of the 1950's and 1960's while he was a disc jockey and host of Bandstand. You can listen to that music now on iRadioPhilly's oldies radio station called Bandstand
