Wawa opened its first ever drive-thru on Friday morning, 12/19. A drive-thru window was added to the exiting store at 570 Rancocas Road in Westampton, Burlington County. You can still get gas and head in to the store to make purchases. The drive-thru will offer a limited menu of Wawa's most popular items. You can also order combo meals including hoagies, Sizzlis, burgers, salads, pasta, chips, fries, and a variety of drinks. Kid's Meals are available. There are two lines for ordering and one line for paying. Instead of a touchscreen, you'll talk to a real human via intercom while ordering. The drive-thru will be open 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. Wawa is currently building a drive-thru only location at the intersection of the intersection of West Trenton and Pine Grove roads in Falls Township, Bucks County.
The South Philadelphia Co-op full service grocery store will open next Wednesday, 12/23, after 10 years in the making. The community-owned grocery store is located on Juniper Street just north of Snyder Avenue. The area is considered a food desert. "In order to get to a grocery store you have to walk really far, have access to a car, or take public transit. And in the COVID reality that is incredibly difficult," General Manager Lori Burge said. The idea for the co-op started in 2010. There are currently 1,400 neighbors who co-own the store. The store will source local products and produce to stock the shelves. The grand opening will be at Noon, 12/23. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 12 customers can be inside the 3,300 sq ft facility at a time.
The second of two men was sentenced on Friday, 12/18, for the shooting death of a woman during a home invasion at a Camden County blueberry farm in 2017. 23-year-old Tyler Dralle of Vineland was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He had been convicted of murder, burglary, weapons offenses, and related charges in the death of 45-year-old Deanna Scordo. 20-year-old Kwamere Benjamin of New Castle, DE, was convicted of the same charges. Benjamin was sentenced two weeks ago to 38 years in prison. It happened on June 25, 2017, around 3:50 a.m. in Scordo's home on the family blueberry farm. The farm was located on the 700 block of Bairdmore Avenue in Winslow Township. Dralle drove his girlfriend to work at the farm every day for weeks. He and Benjamin decided on the early morning burglary. They shot Scordo in her bedroom three times and made off with $276 in rolled coins. Scordo's father was awoken and called 911. The next morning, Dralle drove his girlfriend to work at the farm like nothing had happened. "We all expect to be safe in our own homes, especially when we go to sleep at night," Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer said in a statement. "Deanna Scordo went to bed that night not knowing she would suffer such a horrific fate at the hands of these two defendants."
