Delaware County Pastor Charged Sexual Abuse; 400th Homicide in Philly; Komen Philly Closing Friday

A Delaware County pastor has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a teenage girl. 70-year-old Edward Lilly of Boothwyn was the pastor of the Christian Church of Chester and faces 22 counts. He first met the victim in 2017 when she was 16 and worked at a super market he frequented. He started grooming the girl by flirting and giving her gifts and cash. The sexual relationship started after she turned 17. He would video their encounters and exchange texts and photos on a phone he purchased just for the relationship. Lilly gave the girl around $2,000 in cash and gifts. "The defendant, Lilly, came to believe that his giving of gifts might be seen - if the affair were known - to be paying for sex," Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said. "So what he did was, at the advice of his counsel, he came to the Upper Chichester Police Department and made a statement giving details about the sexual encounters he'd had with the juvenile victim." His preliminary hearing is November 10.

Philadelphia recorded the 400th homicide of 2020 on Monday afternoon, 10/27. The city's year-to-year crime stats go back to 2007, which also had the highest homicide total for the entire year at 391. A 44-year-old man was discovered by his aunt in the bedroom of a home. It happened around 2 p.m. on the 4800 block of Westminster Avenue in West Philadelphia. He had been shot in the head.

Susan G. Komen Philadelphia will be shutting down Friday, October 30, as the foundation is reorganizing under one national organization. The Philadelphia affiliate began in 1991 with the first Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure on Mother's Day. It served 15 counties in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey and raised $63.7 million over the past 30 years. The money went to heath care programs, breast cancer research, and free mammograms for women in need. Susan G. Komen Foundation has not announced how local services and events will be handled by the national organization.

"For 30 years, I've had the honor to be a steward of a mission founded on a promise between two sisters," said Komen Philadelphia CEO Elaine Grobman. "And to this day, I remain humbled by the huge accomplishments that single commitment has made possible. And I have faith that, with or without a Komen Philadelphia office, this community will continue to fight breast cancer as relentlessly as ever."
