| DE Amber Alert, 2 Suspects Wanted; Wawa Closing Broad/Walnut Store; PPA Worker Stabbed |

An Amber Alert for a missing 2-year-old Delaware boy remains in effect and authorities are asking the public's help in identifying two new suspects. Police are searching for a white vehicle seen near East Market Street and North Race Street around 1 a.m. on July 26. They released surveillance photos of those individuals and the vehicle. 2-year-old Cristobal Lopez was last seen on Saturday, July 25, on South Front Street in Georgetown, DE, while in the custody of his cousin. It is believed he was taken in the early morning of Sunday, 7/26, by his mother, 26-year-old Angela Lopez of Seaford, DE. A court order states that the child must remain in the custody of the cousin. Lopez cannot have any unlawful or unsupervised visits with the boy. Lopez had made arrangements to stay at her cousin's house and visit her son. At 5 a.m. on 7/26, the cousin reported the mother and child missing.
Cristobal is described as a white Hispanic boy with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue shoes and a yellow t-shirt. Angela is described as a white Hispanic woman, 5-foot-tall, 150 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeve black shirt and blue pants. See photos below.
Wawa announced that it will not be reopening its flagship store at Broad and Walnut in Center City Philadelphia. In a statement, the convenience store chain stated the difficult decision was made "due to the impact from the pandemic coupled with some operational uncertainties of today, our long-term plans for this store are no longer viable." The once popular location no longer sees the foot traffic it did before the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Wawa says that they still have two other locations open nearby at 12th and Market and 13th and Chestnut. The Broad and Walnut store opened in 2015. See full statement below.
Philadelphia Police are investigating after a Philadelphia Parking Authority worker was stabbed while on-duty on Monday night, 8/3. It happened around 7:30 p.m. near 10th and Locust streets. The 25-year-old PPA employee was on-duty when he was stabbed four times. He was able to walk to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition. Police have one person in custody. No word on what led up to the the attack.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has issued a State of Emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias. The emergency declaration took effect at 5 a.m. Tuesday, 8/4. The entire state of New Jersey is under a Tropical Storm Warning. Winds 35-45 mph with gusts up to 60, even 70 along the coasts are expected Tuesday afternoon. Drenching rains between 2-4 inches with localized flooding is possible. The coast may also experience flooding from a 2 foot storm surge. Murphy encourages residents to stay off the roads unless necessary.

Wawa Statement on Closing Broad and Walnut Center City Philadelphia Store
"Over the last few months, we have worked to navigate the challenges of COVID-19 and serve our communities through our role as an essential provider.
Now, due to the unique circumstances that continue to impact our customers' daily lives and our own store operations, we are saddened to say that we will not be reopening our Broad and Walnut store.
This decision was a difficult one. But due to the impact from the pandemic coupled with some operational uncertainties of today, our long-term plans for this store are no longer viable.
We are grateful for all the new friends and customers we have met during our time here on this corner, and we will continue to serve the Center City communities from several stores, including our two neighboring stores a few blocks from here -- at 12th and Market and 13th and Chestnut.
As we continue to respond to the new realities of the current situation, we are also accelerating development of new on-the-go experiences and innovative store formats to serve our communities in new and better ways. We are expanding delivery, curbside ordering and pick-up, testing drive-thrus and will be introducing other new digital conveniences.
Our commitment to our friends and neighbors here remains strong and we will continue to do our part to serve and support our communities. Philadelphia is our home town and that's something that will never change." |
