Wine and Good Spirits Online Sales are Open; #SavePhillyEats Helps Restaurants; No Evictions in PA

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is resuming online sales of wine and spirits starting Wednesday, 4/1. Physical state-owned Fine Wine and Good Spirits stores will remain closed until further notice. The website saw overwhelming demand immediately after it was reopened. Customers will be limited to purchasing 6 bottles per order and one order per household a day. You can go to www.FineWineAndGoodSpirits.com. It may be best to try tomorrow or the coming days.

"We understand the public wants to have access to wines and spirits during these unprecedented times, but we have a responsibility to mitigate community spread of this virus to every extent possible and make sure our employees and our customers are as safe as they can be," said Board Chairman Tim Holden. "We believe that re-opening FineWineAndGoodSpirits.com in a controlled manner will allow us to provide access to consumers while also protecting our employees and consumers from unnecessary risk."

#SavePhillyEats is a new website developed to help save Philadelphia's vibrant restaurant and culinary scene during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Forced in-store business closings and social distancing measures have practically shut down the restaurant business. Dine-in service is gone and kitchens have been forced to convert to take-out and delivery if possible. "The purpose here is to allow them to generate revenue while theyâ€™re closed. So customers buy now and redeem when everybody reopens," SavePhillyEats.com founder Anthony Bucci said. #SavePhillyEats lists "unique culinary experiences and offers" from some of Philadelphia's best chefs and restaurants like Top Chef Jen Carroll, Iron Chef Jose Garces, Marc Vetri, and Michael Solomonov. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has extended the moratorium on evictions in the state until April 30. Landlords will not be able to evict a tenant because of failure to pay rent. The order states, "It is noted, as a clarification, that the intent of this provision is that, in view of the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, during this timeframe no officer, official, or other person employed by the Pennsylvania Judiciary at any level shall effectuate an eviction, ejectment, or other displacement from a residence based upon the failure to make a monetary payment."

Pennsylvania lawmakers are working on legislation that would put a freeze on rent and mortgages. Until then, it is suggested that tenants who cannot pay contact their landlords and try to work out a plan. Many landlords have already stepped up and granted some sort of amnesty for their tenants. However, landlords still do not have relief from their own obligations (mortgage, utilities, maintenance). They can also begin eviction proceedings immediately when the moratorium is lifted. Lawmakers in the City of Philadelphia and Harrisburg are working on those issues. New Jersey has a moratorium on both rent and mortgages for several months.

The PA Supreme Court also ordered the extension of the Judicial Emergency Declaration until May 1. All courts will remain closed to the public through April 30th.
