On Saturday, 3/14, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development issued new guidelines for the types of non-essential businesses that should temporarily cease operations in the four suburban Philadelphia counties under Governor Tom Wolf's mitigation orders. Those counties include Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery. "Governor Wolf strongly urged non-essential businesses in four Pennsylvania counties to close for 14 days from the start of the county's mitigation period to protect employees, customers and suppliers and limit the spread of the virus through personal contact and surfaces."
UPDATE: Governor Wolf has ordered that all restaurants and bars close their dine-in operations starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday in Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, Chester, and Allegheny counties.
For more information and to find resource contacts for businesses go to https://dced.pa.gov/resources/
"As a matter of public health, it is the Pennsylvania Department of Health's strong recommendation that businesses cease operations to mitigate the spread of this disease."
Those businesses include:
- Community and recreation centers
- Gyms, including yoga/spin/barre facilities
- Hair salons, nail salons, and spas
- Casinos, concert venues, and theaters
- Bars
- Sporting events facilities and golf courses
- Non-essential retail facilities, including shopping malls (except for pharmacy or other health care facilities located therein)
- NOTE: Restaurants should stay open for carry-out and delivery only
The Wolf administration "strongly encourages businesses to act now before the governor or the secretary of health finds it necessary to compel closures under the law for the interest of public health."

Federal authorities have charged two men for using drones to smuggle drugs and other contraband into a federal prison in Burlington County, NJ. 38-year-old Nicolo Denichilo and 35-year-old Adrian Goolcharran are accused of smuggling in marijuana, steroids, cell phones, SIM cards, and syringes into FCI Fort Dix. They are each charged with one count of conspiring to smuggle contraband and to defraud the United States and one count of smuggling contraband into the federal prison. On Thursday, 3/12, Denichilo and another individual were seen flying a drone over the prison. Officials were able to catch Denichilo, but the other man got away. They were also able to find an inmate inside near the drop site who had 30 cell phones and 50 sims cards in his possession. Officials were able to find evidence of at least seven drone deliveries. Denichilo was released on $100,000 bond. Goolcharran is still at large. |
