Two Presumptive Coronavirus Cases in PA; Central Bucks Closes 5 Schools; Cherry Hill Strip Mall Fire

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed an emergency disaster declaration on Friday, 3/6, in response to any impending coronavirus outbreak in the state. This will allow state agencies to work together easier. He also directed $20 million in unused appropriated funds towards fighting the virus. Wolf announced that there are two presumptive positive cases in Pennsylvania. They will have to be confirmed by the CDC. One case is in Delaware County. That person had been in a part of the US where there are other cases of COVID-19. The other case is in Wayne County. That person had traveled to a country where the virus is present. Both patients are self-quarantined at home and are being monitored. Philadelphia says it is testing two people, but there have not been any positive results yet. New Jersey has two presumptive positive tests.

Central Bucks School District closed five schools out of an abundance of caution on Friday, 3/6, for deep cleaning due to possible exposure of the coronavirus. Superintendent John Kopicki made the decision on Thursday night, 3/5, after learning that several people in the district had been exposed to an out-of-state person with a confirmed case of the virus. The schools involved include Butler Elementary School, Titus Elementary School, Tamanend Middle School, Tohickon Middle School, and Central Bucks South High School. The exposure happened at a private gathering at a residence in Bucks County. At the time, no one knew, including the infected person, that they had COVID-19 virus. Kopicki says that "the Bucks County Health Department is currently evaluating these individuals to determine when they may return to school." A strip mall in Cherry Hill, NJ, was destroyed by a massive fire on Friday morning, 3/6. It happened around 10:50 a.m. on the 400 block of East Evesham Road. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke. The fire was brought under control by 11:50 a.m. At least 5 businesses were completely destroyed. No one was injured. All of the businesses were closed at the time. Electrical work was being done on the building. The cause of the fire is under invstigation.
