This week Philadelphia will be host to the first ever B. PHL Innovation Festival spearheaded by Independence Blue Cross. The three-day event will be held Tuesday, October 15th, to Thursday, October 17th, at various locations throughout the city. It is named as an homage to B. Franklin. It will be comprised of "interactive workshops, sessions, and exhibits focused on arts and culture, science, business, social impact, health care, and more." Part of the reason to hold the festival is to highlight Philadelphia as an innovation hub on the East Coast. Another goal of the festival is to get many areas of our region together including the City of Philadelphia, leading universities and colleges, large and small nonprofits, Fortune 500 companies, and community outreach organizations.
B. PHL says all the festival locations are accessible via SEPTA and many are walkable. The location partners include: Independence Blue Cross, Chamber of Commerce, Comcast, Drexel University, Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Pennsylvania, Design Philly, Entercom, Curtis Institute, The Science Center, and InstaMed. You'll want to map out the locations of the various sessions you want to attend before hand. You may need to travel only a few blocks or you many need to take a subway or ride share.
The festival will have over 150 different events and 450+ speakers. Speakers include: Questlove, The Roots; Tracee Ellis Ross, Actress/Producer/Director; Michael Rubin, 76ers partner; Abbi Jacobson, 'Broad City'; Josh Kopelman, First Round Capital; Marc Randolph, Netflix co-founder; and many more. (see: https://bphlfest.com/speakers/). You can still register and purchase a badge. The badge will get you into any event during the festival. B. PHL also donates a badge for every one purchased. Once you are signed up, there is an app to keep track of all the sessions and locations and a QR code for your badge.
