The Kelly Center for Music, Arts and Community in Havertown will be hosting a full week of diverse music, arts and cultural events to coincide with Delco Arts Week this Saturday, September 21st to 28th. The multi-purpose community arts venue had an opening night over the summer with some other events since, but this upcoming Grand Opening Week is their first full schedule since construction was completed. This week will offer a taste of what will to come with a diverse lineup of acts from blues to Celtic, jazz to hip hop, and open mics for teens, poetry, and comedy.
The 6 year endeavor to convert the old Goodman's 5&10 at 4 E. Eagle Road has come to fruition for Kelly Music for Life's Tom Kelly, Paul Kelly and their wives, Sheri and Susan. The 501c3 non-profit has been and continues to produce outdoor concerts and festivals in the Haverford area such as the Haverford Spring Festival, Havertown Irish Festival, and the upcoming Havertalian Festival. The permanent space of the Kelly Center will allow for year round programming.
The space will provide live performance opportunities for developing young musicians, singers, writers and other students interested in developing their craft. The Kelly Center will also feature professional performers, singer-songwriters, comedians and more. After-school, senior, and other community programs will be hosted in the space. "The Kelly Center gives our community a listening room for professional performers and an opportunity for young artists who need to reach an audience. Arts programs are being cut in many schools. We plan to fill the void and continue to underscore the value in music and arts of all varieties - music, comedy, spoken word, theater, 2-D and 3-D artwork. We will showcase students in after school programs and give our young people something they can enjoy and be part of." says Tom Kelly. You can also find the New Avenue Café operating daily inside the center. Run by the non-profit New Avenue Foundation, the cafe provides employment opportunities for those with disabilities.
In honor of their 5&10 history, tickets this week are $5 and $10 in advance (more day of), while some events are free. Purchase online at https://kellycenter.ticketleap.com. The Kelly Center is BYOB.
