The Philadelphia International Flower Show's theme this year is Hawaii! Islands of Aloha. The highly acclaimed show presented each year buy the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society was first put on in 1829.

In order to stay fresh, current, lively, and survive all these years, the Flower Show has learned to adapt, change, and innovate. This year, Drew Becher, president of the Horticultural Society, has made a few more changes than usual.

Some additions to the show include a 64 seat restaurant in the middle of the show. There is also a new flower show app available. In an effort in attract for men to accompany woman to the show they've added a "man cave" room with an open bar, big-screen TVs with non-stop sports, theater seating, a Tiger Woods video game and poker and blackjack tables with dealers from SugarHouse Casino.

The Hawaiian Village will have 40 vendors culled from the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii. They will bring culturally authentic artisan crafts such as lei-making, and demonstrate hula, traditional music, dance, chant, attire, etc.

The main feature was created by Klip Kollective from Northern Liberties. They use a technique called video mapping to project image of fish, bubbles, surf, sea turtles, surfers, etc. onto a giant wave covered in white orchids and anthuriums. It surrounded by four showcase gardens that depict Hawaiian paniolo (cowboys); a fantasy surfers' retreat; a rocky, dry, island landscape; and a volcanic garden that channels Pele, the mythical goddess of fire.

From the PHS site:

Proceeds from the Philadelphia Flower Show, including sponsorship contributions, help fund PHS's outreach programs including Philadelphia Green, the nation's largest and most comprehensive neighborhood greening program. Philadelphia Green works with more than 800 organized community groups on thousands of projects that include planting street trees, maintaining neighborhood parks, and creating vegetable and flower gardens.
