2018 Firefly Music Festival Review Day 2 Friday: Foster The People, Logic, Arctic Monkeys

The Firefly Music Festival is finally back in action this summer here at the Woodlands in Dover Delaware. The festival officially kicked off Thursday afternoon with a couple performances including Bryce Vine, Everything Everything, and Chromeo. Friday kicked off the full festival and had the festivalgoers rocking on into the early hours of Saturday. The sun was shining, but the weather was perfect for everyone to be walking around and enjoying the shows. Starting off the day was a heavy set list of Philly artists. The first performances of the festival were Philly natives Brittany Ann Tranbaugh who played over on the coffee house stage and Tierra Whack on the Porch state. Starting off on the Backyard stage was the up and coming Punk Band from LA, The Regrettes. They rocked the stage and began to wake up the campers and festivalgoers who may have been groggy from the night before. Starting the day on the main Firefly stage was Ohio based blues-rock band Welshy Arms. The group put on a fantastic show and a great set to open up the huge main stage.

Moving over to the Lawn stage was another Philly artist/band Ron Gallo. Gallo has a great presence on stage and a great sense of humor to follow it, which seemed to rub off to the crowd as they jumped up and down with the music. Moving all the way to the Main stage was Lukas Nelson & The Promise of The Real. Nelson just happens to be the son of legendary country singer Willie Nelson. Him and his band put on an amazing set mixing the stylings of country and rock to make a perfect sound for such a beautiful day. Jumping across the way to the Backyard stage had Ohio based rapper Joey Purp on deck. Any festivalgoer who may have been beat from the sun, or possibly too many drinks, was instantly brought back to life by his music. It was definitely the refresher many of us needed. Over on the Lawn stage later on was LA R&B duo THEY. The members Dante Jones and Drew Love performed a mix of hip-hop and R&B style music, featuring their hit single "U Rite" off their debut album Nu Religion: Heyena.

Jumping to the Main stage was veteran alternative rock band Jimmy Eat World. The band may have been around longer than most at the festival, but they still know how to rock a crowd. Jimmy Eat World played many of their older hits including "Sweetness" and "The Middle" as well as some newer hits including "Get Right" off their 2016 album Integrity Blues. On the other side of the festival was another Philly band taking the stage, Marian Hill. The duo electrified the stage with their unique mix of EDM beats and alternative rhythms. Up next on the Main stage was another veteran indie pop band, Foster the People. The boys of Foster the People put on one of the most spectacular shows I have ever seen. Blending electronic synth sounds with the indie pop rhythms that soothed the crowd as the sun began to set. The band had an amazing light show with visual graphics behind them on stage. The band played many hits including "Pumped Up Kicks" and the hit single "Sit Next to Me" off their 2017 album "Sacred Hearts Club."

Cold War Kids were next up headlining the Lawn Stage. The band put on one heck of a show, rocking on into the late night hours of the second day of the festival. Headlining over on the Backyard stage was rapper Logic, who put on an amazing show, keeping the fans moving and jumping late in the night. Logic featured plenty of hit songs, many of them from his 2018 mix tape "Bobby Tarantino II." He even showcased his skills giving a fresh freestyle to the crowd. Logic ended the show with his hit single "1-800-273-8255" promoting suicide awareness. Headlining the Main stage Friday night was UK rock band Arctic Monkeys. The band put on a show like no other. Playing a blend of slow melodic tunes as well as hard rocking songs that kept the crowd on their feet and moving to the beats. The Arctic Monkeys finished up the set with two of their hit songs "Do I Wanna Know" as well as "R U Mine." The boys of Arctic Monkeys closed out the main stage in perfect fashion.

Closing out the festival was up and coming rapper Lil Xan in The Pavillion as well as Big Gigantic on the Backyard Stage. Both had the crowds moving and dancing into the early morning hours of Saturday. It was a great second day of the Firefly Music Festival but there is plenty more to come over the next two days here in the Woodlands of Dover.
