Philadelphia Music Alliance Inducts New Members into Philadelphia Walk of Fame

The Philadelphia Music Alliance inducted new members to the Philadelphia Walk of Fame on Wednesday. This year's inductees include Jill Scott, Sister Sledge, McFadden & Whitehead, Labelle (Patti LaBelle, Sarah Dash, Nona Hendryx), Soul Survivors, Joe Nicolo & Chris Schwartz (Ruffhouse Records) and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Bob Pantano received the 2017 Broadcaster Award and Anne Ewers was honored with the Platinum Award.

A ceremony was held in the afternoon outside of the Kimmel Center on South Broad Street. A bronze plaque honoring each inductee is placed in the sidewalk along the Avenue of the Arts along with over 100 other past members. This year's new members strongly represent Philadelphia's rich tradition of female singers and R&B music. Also, included are legendary producers and record executives that helped shaped the Philadelphia sound.

Later on Wednesday evening, the Walk of Fame Gala was held at the Fillmore in Fishtown with an array of special performances and guest appearances. The event was hosted by Alex Holley of Fox29. The Philadelphia Music Alliance was founded in June 1986 as a community-based, not-for-profit organization. PMA serves to encourage the creation, celebration and historical preservation of Philadelphia music.
