If you aren't already excited for Sir Paul McCartney's appearances in our area next month, then Saturday night's show at London's O2 arena should get the juices flowing. During the encore, Paul was joined on stage by Foo Fighter's frontman Dave Grohl on guitar/vocals for a rendition of the Beatle's classic "I Saw Her Standing There." McCartney also debuted "Temporary Secretary" off his 1980 McCartney II during the main show showing anything is game on this tour. McCartney headlines Friday night at the Firefly Music Festival on June 19th in Dover. The first night of his Out There North American Tour is at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Sunday June 21st.

Louis Johnson, founding member of the funk band Brothers Johnson, passed away on Thursday, May 21st. Johnson, who played bass, started the band with his brother George. The band had three #1 hits (1976's "I'll Be Good to You," 1977's cover of "Strawberry Letter 23," and 1980's "Stomp!") and platinum selling albums. Louis was also an in-demand bassist working on other projects including Michael Jackson's entire Off The Wall album and also Thriller ("Billie Jean," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "P.Y.T."). He worked with Paul McCartney, Michael McDonald, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Herb Alpert, George Benson, and more throughout his career. "Thunder Thumbs" was 60.

Indie rockers Surfer Blood have been collecting donations for medical bills after they announced last month that guitarist Thomas Fekete has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer (sarcoma). On Saturday, at a tour stop near Chicago, their van was broken in to. They explained on a Facebook post that they lost all of the cash donations for Thomas collected at the last 8 shows, as well as their show settlements, thousands of dollars in personal items, and smaller things including pedals. The thieves left all the big musical stuff and they'll be able to continue to tour. Granted they probably shouldn't be keeping lots of cash in a van, but they do have a GoFundMe page that has also been collecting donations, so all is not lost. No word on how much was lost. They did post pictures of some unique/distinct guitar pedals on their Facebook page in the hope that someone will recognize them if the thief tries to sell them.
