A 14-year-old Lehigh County girl is being charged as an adult in the stabbing death of her mother after investigators discovered text messages between her and her soldier boyfriend saying, "I want her gone." According to Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin, 8th grader Jamie Silvonek, of Upper Macungie Township, is being charged with first-degree homicide, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and criminal conspiracy. Her mother, 54-year-old Cheryl Silvonek, was stabbed to death in the driveway of their Upper Macungie home on March 15th. The body was found buried in the dirt and snow in South Whitehall Township. 20-year-old Caleb Barnes has already been charged in the murder, but will now be charged in the conspiracy. A previous charge of statutory sexual assault has been withdrawn because prosecutors would need the cooperation of the now codefendant Silvonek. Barnes is enlisted as an Army specialist out of Fort Meade, MD.

A 16-year-old boy surrendered to SEPTA Police today after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday. SEPTA Police Chief Thomas J. Nestel III said that a combination of facial recognition software and two tipsters helped them identify the teenager. He was caught Monday afternoon on surveillance video from a Market Frankford El train and from the 15th Street Station arguing with a 60-year-old man and then knocking him out cold on the station platform. The man was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital for head injuries. See the video of the incident below:

Philadelphia Police have made a break in their investigations into the rash of airbag thefts across the city. Thieves have been breaking into cars, particularly Hondas, taking the airbags and selling them to body shops who then install them into cars following accidents. The repair shops buy the 'hot' airbag for $50 to $200 and charge insurance companies $1000 or full new price. This has happened to dozens of cars in all parts of the city. Police arrested Ricky Sanchez of West Kensington who has been linked to at least 6 thefts in Northeast Philadelphia in September 2014. They executed a search warrant at a salvage yard on Glenwood Avenue and discovered seven stolen bags. His prints also matched to prints lifted from the six cars. Police believe that Sanchez is part of a ring and hope he'll lead them to the rest of the thieves.

Tonight,
Partly cloudy, lower 60s/upper 50s this evening in center city
