Philly Hip Hop star Meek Mill (aka Robert Williams) has lost his civil suit against the Philadelphia Police and two city officers today. The 26-year-old rapper from North Philadelphia filed suit over an incident on Halloween 2012. Williams was pulled over, searched, and detained by police for several hours. That detainment caused him to miss a chartered flight, an appearance at his record release party in Atlanta, and possible endorsement money. He was seeking $400,000 in compensation and punitive damages for violation of his 4th amendment rights.

On October 31, 2012, Meek Mill along with his passengers (an off-duty FL narcotics investigator and a record executive) were pulled over at 11th and Girard Streets. The officers were concerned with the window tint of the SUV. As they approached the Range Rover they claimed to have smelled marijuana and insisted on a search. Williams and company were cuffed for not complying with the search and transported to the 22nd Police District until a search warrant could be obtained. No drugs were found and no charges were filed. He was held in custody for 9-10 hours and released at 4:30 am. The rapper claims that the detainment cost him $22,000 for missing a private jet to Atlanta as well as $39,000 to appear at a party celebrating the release of his album Dreams & Nightmares. Williams may also have lost money from potential sponsorship deals from company due to a tarnished reputation.

The 8 member jury voted unanimously that Williams's rights were not violated. They wrote, “Although we voted unanimously that Mr. Williams' Fourth Amendment rights were not violated, we feel strongly both the plaintiff and defendant were in the wrong and made mistakes”

Meek Mill was quite displeased with the ruling. “I quit,” he said before storming out of the courtroom. “I quit everything... except for music.”
