| Day 3 Dave Matthews Band Caravan Time to Wrap it up and Bring it on Home |

Day 3, Sunday, was again another perfect day in Atlantic City. We got away with three beautiful days in a row with no rain and no oppressive heat. The location helps, right in the inter-coastal waterway, so there's a cool breeze from the water. Today's crowd was noticeably smaller than yesterday's closer to Friday's attendance.
Alright, let me run through some of the music. I unfortunately was running late and missed Alberta Cross and Dawes, but I heard they both had decent sets. I'll have to catch them some time on their own. My loss.
I did start out seeing Fitz and the Tantrums who were a delight. Their energy, catchy pop driven songs, and soulful performance were a nice start to the day.
Yesterday brought a lot of world influenced music to the stages here at the Caravan, but today was a nice showcase for a couple of 'local' Philly acts to shine. Boy did Amos Lee shine today. He took a strong hold on the main stage and the large crowd in front of him this afternoon and led them through a soulful journey with his full band.
Immediately after his set across the way, Philly rockers Dr. Dog took the Atlantic stage. They ripped through their set of carefully crafted melodies, harmonies, lyrics, and riffs to an engaged crowd. It's great to see a band that works hard get to a place where they can take the stage at a festival like this and get such a response as they did. Crowd favorites ironically included some of their rare radio plays, 'Shadow People' and 'The Ark'.
I saw David Gray play 'Sail Away'. The end.
Grace Potter (and the Nocturals) had everything going on. It's not just that she's a leggy blonde in a little black dress and high heels, but she can really sing, she can play a mean guitar, and if you need her to wail on the organ she's got that covered too. The band is also solid. Their set was just some good old rock and roll and a good time.
Michael Franti and Spearhead was also fun. I do enjoy his recordings, although they tend to start to sound like the same song over and over. 'Say Hey', 'Hey Hey Hey', 'Sound of Sunshine'. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
I went over to see Bassnectar since I could hear him from Franti. Crowd was going nuts, he was having a blast up there. I'm not going to critique/nitpick his style, it's a little different, but a DJ set was a nice diversion at the end of this weekend, something different to shake the cobwebs (literally, the bass was turned up so high).
and then of course Dave Matthews Band played. No guests tonight, I guess everyone went home, ha!. A few covers though, Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion and then Sly and the Family Stone's Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) which ended the encore. If it wasn't for save a few songs, you could have pulled this setlist from around '99. With so many recent songs the first two nights, I figured we see some of these tonight, but they kept them coming. Anyway, the band was a lot tighter tonight than the first two nights. They seem to be back in the swing of things.
All in all this was a pretty successful weekend as far a festivals go. Weather was perfect. Facilities, vendors, location all worked out great. The traffic situations were not terrible. The bands were terrific and so were the fans. I'm sure that Atlantic City is very happy with the results of the first event ever at Bader Field.
