Native Boston, Massachusetts alternative rock leaders the Pixies played a sold out show on Friday, January 24th with Californian garage rock band FIDLAR opening. Pixies have been celebrating very successful tours in recent times, most notably starting in 2009 with the 20th anniversary of their album Doolittle. Though since then the lineup has changed. Replacing original bassist Kim Deal is former A Perfect Circle member Paz Lenchatin. The dynamic is still incredibly strong and Pixies sound as powerful and sonically superior as ever.

Starting the show was Los Angeles, California skate-punk band FIDLAR. Consisting of Zac Carper on vocals/guitar, Brandon Schwartzel on bass, and brothers Elvis Kuehn on guitar/vocals and Max Kuehn on drums. The band has a great history in Philadelphia, having played their 2nd show as a band ever at the Electric Factory opening for The Hives back in 2012. Having released a strong self-titled debut album, FIDLAR proves to be a fantastically energetic band with strong chemistry and eclectic taste. The sounds mesh very well with Pixies' beach affiliated lyrics and vibes, very fitting bands to have touring together.

FIDLAR held a brilliant set consisting of songs from their debut full length record, including songs such as, "Max Can’t Surf" who as Zac Carper mentions is about, "red-headed angel" drummer Maxwell Kuehn. The set also included a handful of very powerful new songs. Also played throughout the set was a rambunctious rendition of “Stoked And Broke.” Look out for the interview with FIDLAR to be posted soon!

Pixies then took the stage with prominence and prowess opening with a thunderous version of Bone Machine. Black Francis makes a triumphant return to the stage with remarkable vocals. Guitarist Joey Santiago paints with clarity and creativity within each song. Drummer David Lovering provides a magical display of percussion throughout the set and adds an ingenious energy to the atmosphere. Newly added bassist Paz Lenchatin is a well suitable musician providing backup vocals as well.

The setlist included songs spanning the band’s 17+ year career. Including tracks from their early albums Surfer Rosa, Doolittle and Come On Pilgrim the band also played tracks from their later records Bossanova and Trompe le Monde. Newer songs such as the recently released track Bagboy was played during the set as well. Here we see a highly influential band on the current state of music flourish and display their ability to wonderfully captivate on stage. Highlighted moments within Pixies' set was a great version of, "Where Is My Mind?" with the audience joining in singing along and encapsulating a powerful moment. All in all, the Pixies played with the radiance and superiority as expected from such an influential and proficient band. The band’s inspiration on countless groups throughout their career is substantial. As once also said about The Velvet Underground, there is a known believe to each person who have listened to the Pixies has started a band themselves. This is still very evident today, and as important as ever.
