Hundreds gathered in the beginning of this month for the 2013 edition of Philadelphia Miniaturia held in the Crowne Plaza of Cherry Hill, NJ. The event hosted an eclectic selection of artists from all over the world showcasing their miniature artwork including paintings, dollhouses, and every accessory imaginable. Curated by Kimberly Appleby Sher on November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the event is held annually with much dedication and anticipation by both artists and collectors alike. Be sure to check out the photo gallery here!

A preview held on Friday was open to those who purchase advance weekend tickets. The avid collectors got a first glimpse into the unique miniature universe. With four showrooms of artist's work there was an impressive amount of showcases to check out. The theme for this year’s Philadelphia Miniaturia event was "Those Old '45s", with door prizes centered around a vinyl theme.

Official opening day was Saturday November 2nd, and the turnout was phenomenal. Many were amazed with the amount of talent hosted at the event. What is so incredible about Philadelphia Miniaturia is the genuine hard work of the artists and it shows within their showcases. Each figurine, scenery or painting is handcrafted with outstanding detail. Some of the most striking artwork are the paintings done to a 12th scale with an amazing resemblance of the original piece.

Artists from all over the US were able to show their detailed artwork to the public and with great feedback and receptiveness, coming as far as Michigan and Rhode Island. Some even made it from as far as northern Canada, London, and Italy. The event was a great assortment of talent within the creative field of minituria. From scaled Victorian houses worth over $60,000 to small teddy bears for under $2, there is just about anything within the spectrum of minituria.

Overall the experience of the event was a wonderful display of the thriving community of minituria enthusiasts and collectors together in the largest minituria event on the east coast. Philadelphia Miniaturia serves both the artists and public as a great way to experience the art of miniatures as both avid followers and beginners in the scene. The amount of dedication within those participating as artists is amazing, be sure to check out Philadelphia Miniaturia during its run next year. Although the subject matter is small in size, the phenomenal following and tight-knit community is presenting in the greatest and utmost large scale. Check out the photo gallery here!
