Tame Impala Plays Sold Out Electric Factory; Announces Penn's Landing Show With The Flaming Lips

Last week Philadelphia had the privilege to host one of the top names on the Alternative Rock forefront of today, Australian rockers Tame Impala. The show was at the Electric Factory, a local favorite well suited for the sonically superior sounds of Tame Impala. Opening the show was Philly’s own Light Heat, who celebrated their Self-Titled debut record release by the means of an in-store performance at a.k.a Music in Old City yesterday.

With an award such as the "Album Of The Year”" in which Tame Impala's Lonerism has been bestowed, it's interesting to see how the material translates to the live atmosphere. Being the studio project of frontman Kevin Parker, on stage we see a full group musically intertwine and impressively on point with each other. Starting the show off was a righteous version of "Solitude Is Bliss" from Tame Impala's debut Innerspeaker. With a psychedelic light show fitting to create a setting of utmost surreal vibes, the grooves sent from the band rattled and rocked throughout the sold out audience at the Electric Factory.

Proceeding to a supreme version of Lonerism’s "Elephant" the band breaks out into an extended jam, returning together with a "Yeah!" in unison was nothing short of remarkable. "This place is awesome, look we're on the big screen too! Thanks Philly!" said Kevin Parker in exclamation. Tame Impala continued to keep the groove alive within the crowd with a faithful rendition of "Be Above It" with fantastic vocals. The way melody meshes with the rhythm is what sets Tame Impala apart from so many bands, it's a solid and skillful mastery. Afterwards was a perfect, "Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind?" from 2010's Innerspeaker. "This one is for you up there on the balcony, those way back there, and you right up front!" Said Kevin Parker before the band closed off the set was their fantastically guitar driven and infectiously catchy hit "Half Full Glass Of Wine." The crowd went ballistic, intensely dancing and singing along.

With the success and positive reception Tame Impala has gained over the last two years, it's no surprise the Aussie boys were able to handle a sold out show at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. Turning those seeing them for the first time into loyal fans is the true statement of authentic rock and roll. It seems Philadelphia needed a double dose of Australian rock and roll in order to get their fill. Just announced yesterday Tame Impala is set to play with The Flaming Lips at Festival Pier in Penn's Landing on October 3rd, 2013. Tickets go on sale here on June 28, and if it’s anything like last time you’ll want to grab a pair before it sells out. Philadelphia knows when the great bands and shows are coming into town, and surely enough Tame Impala and The Flaming Lips will be a whimsically full of life autumn show in the City of Brotherly Love.
