Ray Bradbury, the author of classics such as "Fahrenheit 451," "Something Wicked this Way Comes." and "The Martian Chronicles," passed away Wednesday morning in Los Angeles at the age of 91.

Bradbury began his writing career in 1938 by writing for fanzines, becoming a full time writer in 1943. His breakthrough, "The Martian Chronicles," was published in 1950. It was about man's attempt to colonize Mars after nuclear war on Earth.

His most well known book was "Fahrenheit 451" published in 1953. Set in a totalitarian society that has outlawed the written word, it follows a fireman whose job it is to find and burn books. The main character begins to save some books from destruction and flees for his life when discovered, only to find refuge with a group dedicated to keeping memory of the written word alive.

Several of Bradbury's books and stories were used and turned into movies as well as television shows. They appeared as episodes of of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "The Twilight Zone," and his own "Ray Bradbury Theater."

His grandson, Danny Karapetian, shared this quote from Bradbury:

"My tunes and numbers are here. They have filled my years, the years when I refused to die. And in order to do that I wrote, I wrote, I wrote, at noon or 3:00 A.M.

So as not to be dead."
