| Villanova Cabbie Drug Dealer, Rutgers Webcam Gets 30 days, Niagra Falls/Mount Everest/SpaceX/Mariana |

A cab driver for Main Line Taxi has been arrested and charged with possession, and possession with intent to distribute. Leonard Lavender of Philadelphia operated his cab in the Villanova section of Radnor township, and in addition to ferry fares, he had a nice side business delivering drugs to Villanova students. Students in need would call Lavender who'd arrange to meet at a particular location to make the transaction. The police put a stop to it all after a two month investigation. Certainly beats having to go into the city from the main line to cop drugs. No students have been arrested.
The former Rutgers student, Dharun Ravi, who was found guilty in March on all 15 counts relating to an incident in September 2010 when he spied on his roomate on a webcam was sentenced today. The judge will send him to jail for 30 days and placed him on probation for 3 years plus 300 hours community service. Ravi must also pay $10,000 to a program for victims of hate crimes. The judge will not recommend deportation. Ravi immigrated to the US from India as a child. Tyler Clementi, his roommate, jumped off the George Washington Bridge shortly after the webcam incident. Prosecutors plan on appealing the sentence. They did not feel the maximum 10 year sentence was necessary, but they feel this is the other extreme of leniency.
Mankind has conquered nearly all reaches of our planet and beyond. However, just because it has been done before doesn't mean that it can or should be done again, or if you do attempt it that it will be easy. In March, filmmaker/explorer James Cameron became the first person to reach the deepest part of the ocean alone, Challenger Deep at 35,755 ft in the Mariana Trench. This past weekend the first commercial launch of a space craft by the company SpaceX was scrubbed last minute, they'll try again tomorrow Tuesday. This weekend though there was tragedy in our pursuit of conquering the planet. Three mountaineers perished and two are still missing on the peak of the world's tallest mountain Everest (29,029 ft). There was a “traffic jam†while people waited to take their turn up the final trail to the summit, with people still heading up very late starting at 2:30pm and not accounting for the extra time and limited oxygen supply. They suffered altitude sickness and hypothermia. Finally today, a man in his 40's jumped into the Niagra River above the Horseshoe Falls at Niagra Falls without any safety gear just himself, and went over the giant waterfall. Amazingly he survived, popping out down below and swan across the swirling rapids. He sustained life-threatening injuries, broken ribs, collapsed lung, etc. and was helicoptered away. He is third person to survive going over the falls without any device. What's next?
In Sports, The Eagles agreed to terms with quarterback Nick Foles on a four-year contract. First round defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is the only remaining draft pick yet to sign.
