Body Found ID'd as Casey Johnston; Broad Street Run Registration Open; Vaccination Required?

The Medical Examiner's officer has identified the body found on Sunday afternoon, 8/1, in Northeast Philadelphia as missing Bucks County woman Cassandra 'Casey' Johnston. The cause of death was blunt impact trauma and it has been ruled accidental. The 26-year-old had gone missing on July 10 after visiting friends in Center City Philadelphia. A private investigator spotted her silver 2016 Ford Focus in a wooded area off of Woodhaven Road near Rt 1 during an aerial search on Saturday, 7/31. The Philadelphia Police Marine Unit discovered the body in Byberry Creek off the 1200 block of Townsend Road on Sunday about a half-mile from the car. Police believe she did not navigate the turn properly on Woodhaven, hit a guardrail, and went airborne into the trees. They say she was probably ejected from her car through the sun roof. That area experienced significant flooding on July 12 and may have carried her into the creek and away from the car. The recent tornado could have cleared branches and revealed the car from the sky, unseen in previous searches. No foul play is suspected.

Registration for the 2021 Blue Cross Broad Street Run is now open from August 1 - August 7. You will be notified on August 9 if you were selected or not. The race will be held on October 10. The 10-mile run is usually held in May, but was postponed due to the pandemic. The 2020 event was also postponed to Fall 2020 and then turned into a virtual run because of coronavirus. Anyone who registered for last year's race was guaranteed a spot in this year's race with a 20% discount or could defer entry to 2022 with a discount. Those runners had their chance to register last month. This limited lottery is for any remaining spots. The cost of registration is $57. Register at: https://www.broadstreetrun.com/

Coronavirus COVID-19 cases are rising across the country due to the Delta variant. Unvaccinated people account for most of those case, although there are some breakthrough cases with the vaccinated. Some government entities, healthcare systems, and private employers are now requiring workers to be vaccinated or submit to frequent testing.

Now, some establishments are starting to require patrons to show proof of vaccination. In Philadelphia, two restaurants are now requiring guests (and employees) to be vaccinated. Guests must show their vaccine card or a photo to dine at Martha in Kensington and Irwin's Upstairs in South Philadelphia. You can still dine outside at Martha if you are not vaccinated.

Philadelphia musician Japanese Breakfast announced on Monday afternoon, 7/2, that all attendees and venue employees on their current US tour must be vaccinated or test negative within 48 hours. Masks must also be worn by all. There are 5 sold out shows at Union Transfer 8/6-11.

Other restaurants requiring proof of vaccination include: Le Virtu on East Passyunk in Philadelphia, Musi on Morris Street, and Cornerstone Bistro in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

All upcoming shows for this tour will be masked and require either proof of vaccination or a negative PCR within 48 hours preceding the show.
