| NWS says EF-3 140 MPH Tornado in Bensalem; 2nd Arrest in Pat's Shooting; Rumors in House Explosion |

The National Weather Service is investigating several areas for possible tornados after Thursday night's storms in Bucks County, PA; Lehigh County, PA; Mercer County, NJ; Ocean County, NJ; Middlesex County, NJ; and Sussex County, DE. Destructive storms tore through Bucks County in the late afternoon. One possible tornado went across the northern part of the county from Lumberville to New Hope and then crossed into Mercer County, NJ. A second tornado touched down in the southern part of the county near the border with Philadelphia. The Faulkner car dealerships at Rt. 1 and Street Road suffered major damage. Cars were over turned in the lot and the roof was torn from the building. No one was injured. Trees were knocked down and homes were damaged in the surrounding neighborhoods. In New Hope, crews are working to clear the roads of trees and PECO is trying to restore power to customers.
The NWS Mount Holly/Philadelphia has thus far confirmed these tornados:
1) Bucks County, PA (Bensalem/Trevose area): EF-3 winds 140 mph.
2) Ocean County, NJ (Cedar Bridge area in Barnegat Township): EF-1 winds 100-105 mph
3) Ocean County, NJ (Waretown to Barnegat Light, Long Beach Island): EF-2 winds 115 mph
4) Bucks County, PA (Plumstead Twp area): EF-1 winds 90 mph
5) Bucks County, PA (New Hope/Washington Crossing area): EF-2 winds 115 mph
6) Northeast Philadelphia, PA: EF-0 winds 60-80 mph
7) Mercer County, NJ (Windsor area): EF-1 105 mph
8) Lehigh County, PA (Slatington area): EF-0 85 mph
9) Lehigh County, PA (Weisenberg area): EF-1 90 mph
NWS Mount Holly/Philadelphia will release specifics on each tornado on Saturday.
Philadelphia Police have made a second arrest in connection to the deadly shooting outside of Pat's Steaks last week. 36-year-old Jamie Frick of Newmanstown, PA, has also been charged with murder and other offenses. Police say that although she did not fire the gun, she had enough involvement to warrant the murder charge. It happened on Thursday, 7/22, just before 1 a.m. outside the iconic cheesesteak shop. Paul Burkert of Reading, PA, shot and killed 22-year-old David Padro Jr. after an argument and fight. The dispute was over a minor parking incident. Burkert fled the scene in a vehicle driven by a female. It is not known if that female was Frick, but she is his girlfriend. He turned himself into police a short time later. Burkert's defense attorney, Charles Peruto Jr., admits that he was in illegal possession of an weapon, but says that his client acted in self defense.
Officials in West Brandywine, Chester County, want to dispel any rumors that the cause of a house explosion and subsequent fire last week was due to any sort of criminal activity. In a statement, Police Chief Jeff Kimes says, "The information being provided by this department is to quell those on going rumors that continue to plague the owner of the affected property. We can confirm that NO criminal activity or intentional injury, for any reason, was the cause of this incident, again, NO criminal activity of any part was attributed to this unfortunate incident." Apparently there has been rumors or misinformation accusing the homeowner of running a meth lab on the property and endangering his family. Officials say that these are not true and "are contributing to additional stress and anxiety on a family that has already lost their home and continue to heal from a tragic incident."
It happened just before 12 p.m. on Wednesday, 7/21, on the 400 block of Hibernia Road in West Brandywine Township. Six people, including 4 children, were in the home when it exploded. The property is located across the street from the township building and police department. Emergency crews responded quickly. 5 were taken to the hospital. The cause of the blast is still under investigation.

"The West Brandywine Police Department would like to provide an update to the house fire incident on Hibernia Road from July 21st. There are continued rumors being circulated regarding the matter that the property owner was involved in criminal activity, including running a meth lab and intentional harm to family. The information being provided by this department is to quell those on going rumors that continue to plaque the owner of the affected property. We can confirm that NO criminal activity or intentional injury, for any reason, was the cause of this incident, again, NO criminal activity of any part was attributed to this unfortunate incident. The family continues to deal with the loss of their property, the healing of their injuries, and trying to rebuild what they lost, also while dealing with incorrect and untruthful rumors being circulated. We ask that in the on going healing process this family will endure, please correct any rumors that continue to circulate in the community, as the rumors are contributing to additional stress and anxiety on a family that has already lost their home and continue to heal from a tragic incident." |
