One Arrested After Montco Barricade; Man Shot Walking Dog; 20 Free Library Branches Reopen 1/19

Police in Montgomery County arrested one man after an over 5-hour long barricade situation on Wednesday, 1/13. It started around 9 a.m. on the 1900 block of Johnson Road by Germantown Pike in Plymouth Meeting. Police officers arrived at the home to serve a search warrant. They initially took several people into custody, but one remained inside and was not cooperating. SWAT teams responded to the scene. At 12:30 p.m. the man came outside with his hands up, but then retreated back into the home. He came out again just before 3 p.m. with his hands up and was taken into custody. The man's brother, Rev. William Singletary, was on the phone with him trying to coax him out. His brother identified him as 29-year-old William Singletary. He said he was wanted in connection with an August 2019 homicide in Philadelphia. Police were originally there to serve a search warrant on the house occupied by another brother, William Singletary. The family has six siblings that share the same name.

A man was shot and killed while walking his dog in Philadelphia's Brewerytown neighborhood on Wednesday evening, 1/13. It happened around 7 p.m. near 31st and Jefferson Streets. The 25-year-old man was approached by two suspects, one in front and one from behind. Chief Inspector Scott Small said they robbed the man before he was shot once in the chest. The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. If you have any information, contact police at 215-686-TIPS.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Milan Loncar, a recent graduate of Temple University. Loncar lived a block away on North Corlies Street. Surveillance video shows the two suspects going through his pockets before firing the shot.

Twenty branches of the Philadelphia Free Library will reopen to the public on January 19 after the city lifts some coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions. The branches will be open for limited services. Visitors will have access to computers and wifi. Many Philadelphians rely on the library for internet access. Returning and borrowing books will also be part of the services available.
