A father has been charged after his 9-year-old daughter was accidentally shot and killed in their North Philadelphia home on Wednesday morning, 1/20. 39-year-old Blake Davis is charged with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, recklessly endangering another person, and illegal firearms violations. It happened around 11 a.m. on the 2300 block of North Bouvier Street. The 9-year-old was home alone with her 12-year-old brother and 5-year-old cousin. They were unsupervised. The 5-year-old somehow got a hold of the gun and shot the girl once in the right side of the head. She was taken to Temple University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The victim had been online in a school class at the time. She stepped away from the computer and didn't return.

"I offer my deepest condolences to the Davis family for the terrible loss of a beloved child. This tragedy was 100% preventable. Kids should not be allowed unsupervised access to firearms, period. We can hold both that a father has suffered a horrific tragedy, and that he is also criminally responsible for this loss," District Attorney Larry Krasner said. "As a community, we must also come together to ensure that the two other children found in this residence are able to heal and grow beyond the trauma inflicted on them."

Norristown Police and the FBI are investigating after shots were fired at the offices of the Montgomery County Democratic Committee. Executive Director Brian Levy made the discovery on Wednesday afternoon, 1/20, when he stopped at the office on East Airy Street in Norristown to pick up mail. There were three shots in the front window that went into a credenza. No one was in the offices at the time. Police were able to recover some of the rounds. The gunfire would have happened sometime between Tuesday, 1/19, 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, 1/20, 7:30 a.m. Authorities are reviewing surveillance video. The office received and reported threatening e-mail messages on January 8. It is not known if it is connected. They are going to be upgrading their current security as a result.

Philadelphia Police have released surveillance images of the suspects wanted in the murder of an 83-year-old man in his home on New Year's Eve. 83-year-old Mauricio Gesmundo was found beaten, bound, and gagged on his living room floor by his daughter and son-in-law. It happened sometime between 9 p.m. New Year's Eve and 3 a.m. New Year's Day on the 3900 block of North Fairhill Street in the city's Hunting Park section. Gesmundo ultimately died in the hospital from his injuries on Monday, 1/18. The suspects also stole a safe containing a large amount of cash. There is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. If you have any information, contact police at 215-686-TIPS.
